5 Tumblr Inspired Fall Pictures

Featured Image: Ilovethispic.com “Fall leaves Gif”

I fall in love with fall (pun intended) every time it comes around. I feel as though when the leaves start to change so do the photo aesthetic. Filters get brighter, lipsticks get darker and our surroundings become the main focus.

Fall pictures are all about the landscape and accessories , we’re all merely props. So from one prop to another here are some tumblr inspired fall pictures you’re bound to see.

Trees & Leaves and More Trees & Leaves

The landscape is beautiful during the fall. The leaves have a way of whisking you into deep hues of reds, bright yellows and electric oranges. So grab your camera because nature is calling.

Mugs, Lights, Fireplaces, Candles & Books

If you’re not clutching or surrounded by one of these items in your #Fall2k16 pictures, are you really invested in the autumn time feeling?

Apple Orchards & Pumpkin Patches

Apple orchards and pumpkin patches are the best place to take cute fall pictures. I couldn’t help myself and just had to follow the trend.

Fall Fashion

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. Not only because I treasure the beautiful scenery but also because that’s when my style really comes alive. Scarves, oversized sweaters and skirts with leggings are a must. Can’t forget the much needed layers upon layers to beat the crisp autumn air. But most importantly I finally get to dust off my many pairs of fall boots.

Well there you have it! I just gave you an ultimate study guide for taking the perfect fall photos. Now study it and put what you’ve learned into practice.

COLLEGE “THE FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE”

Feature Image: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCVlJg5z3dc

Now that I have one year of college under my belt, I feel that it’s my duty (as a somewhat- not really upperclassman) to help prepare all the incoming freshman. Prepare them for what you may ask? Well, the cold reality of higher education of course.

Freshman are sooo cute and kinda annoying. They’re bright eyed, bushy tailed and excited about life. Like little baby chicks before they realized that the farm isn’t their happily ever after, but preparation for the real world. Real world really meaning dinner plates.

So here are 6 things I dreamed college would be as a freshman, but ended up with reality instead.

1. Food

Here at the U of A, instead of one main cafeteria with restaurants scattered around, we have many fast food restaurants with one cafeteria… somewhere on campus. Now, I wasn’t expecting a five-star restaurant with Wolfgang Puck behind the stove flipping burgers. But I at least thought there’d be more effort put towards keeping my non-picky taste buds satisfied. Don’t get me wrong I’ve still gained the freshman 15 and probably more, but it’s safe to say you grow tired of the food on campus pretty quickly.

2. The Glow Up

You know how the ugly duckling grew up and became the beautiful graceful swan? Yeah, I thought that was going to happen to me. I thought I was finally going to go from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. Turns out in reality the ugly duckling turns into the fugly duckling. See no one tells you that the stress from school was going to make you break out and stress eat your feelings. Now the only glow in my life is the illuminance of my MacBook screen as I watch Netflix  alone on Friday nights in my dorm.

3. Relationship

I like most girls dreamed of coming to college and finding that perfect guy my first year. I thought I’d meet him in one of my lectures, at a party or even in the line at Panda. Pretty naive of me to think that three months during the summer would turn a high school boy into a college man. The only difference between high school guys and freshman/sophomores college guys is that they have a bigger playground to play games. They’re not trying to settle down and the truth is neither should you. I know we girls like to think of the future but you just got here. Live in the moment, college is where you find yourself, make sure you find you before you start looking for the one.

4. Academics

I knew college was going to be difficult academically [and it is] just not in the way I assumed. I didn’t change my major 100x’s and the course load can get hectic but I still find a way to make it through. College is hard in the sense that it’s all on you. More people are going to college, so it’s up to me to stand out and get involved with things that put me above the rest. I’ve done this by getting an internship my freshman year, joining different clubs/organizations and constantly pushing myself to do more. Having a degree isn’t enough anymore what else you got?

5. Homesickness

I never thought I’d be homesick but little did I know that homesickness would hit me like a freight train. When I left for school my mom told me to call her every day. I thought she was being ridiculous, “every day isn’t that a little excessive” I’d ask her. I now call my mom two to three times a day. First semester I’d constantly ask to come home but with Minnesota being 1,646 miles away and a plane ticket costing around $500, going home on a regular was not an option. I missed my family, home cooked meals and my soft fluffy bed. Good thing I brought my buddy Cotton with me to remind me of home.

6. Safety

All jokes aside it’s become more prevalent that college campuses aren’t as safe as we think. I know going into my first year I got the talk from my parents to stay safe and watch who I hang out with, which I did. I made amazing friends who I trusted. But that’s not always the case and I want you incoming freshman to keep that in mind. Really take care of yourselves when your; out on the weekends, walking home late from the library or just in your dorm. Be mindful of your surroundings and once again stay safe.

Now these tips aren’t to frighten or discourage you. Everyones college experience is different and what you make of it is up to you. College may be stressful, hard and scary but it’s also fun, adventurous and well worth it. The experiences, memories and friendships you make will come in handy in the real world. Or at minimum be great stories to tell the grandkids. So spread your wings baby chick and fly.  Just kidding you’re a domesticated chicken you can’t fly.

Slaayy First Daughters Slaayy

Malia (17, upper left) and Sasha (14, next to the first Lady) at their first state dinner in honor of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Obama girls stepped out looking stunning, as they attended their first state dinner on Thursday (March 10). According to a little birdy from Peoples Magazine, Sasha and Malia strutted the white house red carpet in embroidered Naeem Khan dresses worth $2o,000 each. I guess that’s one of the many perks of being America’s first daughters.

Both girls showed off their own distinct style in the gowns they chose.

Malia (17) wore a pretty sweetheart neckline blush pink strapless dress with crystalized beading. For her hair she wore a simple yet classy set of light waves swept to her right shoulder. When I saw her I immediately thought “prom queen status”. Obviously not the popular bitchy girl that everyone loves to hate. She’s more on the lines of the nice girl who everyone loves and secretly voted for.

Sasha (14) went for a more dramatic look. I think what came to mind was “beautiful black vampire princess.” Her ball gown was chiffon with lace overlay and a floral pattern in the shades of turquoise, black, beige and maroon. Or maybe it was cranberry, It’s anyone’s guess to be honest, all i know is that she looked bad ass with her hair in a braided crown updo and a little black choker.

When I saw these two dresses the fashionista in me screamed and had to obsessively search for an affordable version of them. In doing so I found the dresses on the runway. Instead of my eyes glazing over in a loving look with a spotlight from heaven shinning down. To my disappointment it was actually very anti climactic with a mere “ehhh nothing special” leaving my mouth. It’s then I realized that it wasn’t the dresses per say that I adored but rather the girls that wore them.

Sasha and Malia are such great role models to young girls all over the country. Since their father’s election in 2008, they’ve done nothing but grow into beautiful young women. They’re the example of what growing up in the spotlight should look like (sips tea..). I also commend The President and First Lady. For having two of the most stressful jobs in the world, they still find time to be involved in their kids lives. Sasha is only 14 people!! and even I want to be her when I grow up

This isn’t their first time wearing outfits that have made me wish I lived in their closest (probably won’t be the last). There’s been many occasions where Sasha and Malia have shown us what great sense of fashion they have.

My personal sense of style is more similar with Sasha, but there are outfits of Malia’s that I would wear. Like the upper right photo.

Much like me they obviously get their fashion sense from their mama. First Lady Michelle Obama has reinvented the style of a First Lady. The FLOTUS showed up dressed to impress on Thursday night.

#FreeKesha… Wait are you telling the truth?

Kd6Ein4J52

Currently in entertainment news, Kesha is suing her producer Dr.Luke for sexually assaulting her and using her career as leverage to keep her quiet. Allegedly he had raped her in 2006 and legal actions began in 2014. All she’s asking for is to be released from her contract.

Dr.Luke is saying that he never raped Kesha and that they were longtime friends. He’s only seen her as “a little sister” and she’s only using the allegations to get out of her contract that keeps her at Sony for six more albums.

Due to the lack of evidence and the airtight contract, she signed the N.Y court denied her request to be released from her contract. This is where the whole #FreeKesha movement on twitter started. Many celebs have come forward in support of Kesha like; Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, Lorde and Taylor Swift who donated $250,000 for Kesha’s legal expenses.

Now that you’re all caught up let me tell you what I think. There’s this stigma around rape in America that creates this vicious cycle.

1. A Woman, Men or child is raped, two things can happen.

Scenario A. A victim comes forward and the man or woman goes to jail, is publically shamed and criticized. Only to find out a couple years later that the victim wasn’t a victim at all and lied about the incident.

Scenario B. A victim comes forward and is publically shamed, criticized and questioned. No one believes the victim and the attacker is let go, free to attack again. Other victims see this and are scared to speak up for fear of being exiled to the brink of society.

Somewhere throughout history, scenario A. happened one too many times which lead to the creation scenario B. It’s difficult dealing with rape because without evidence it’s a he said-she said case. I wish it were easy to say that no matter what the court system will find the truth, but most the time that’s not true. Sometimes an innocent person goes to jail and a guilty man is set free to attack again. When that happens you end up back at square one.

I believe Kesha 100% if she says she’s been raped then in my eyes she’s been raped until proven otherwise. I don’t care if you’re a man, woman, child or an elderly person if you say you’ve been sexually assaulted I will believe you. Maybe if more people had that mentality then more victims would step forward instead of scared into silence.

We need to stop asking questions like what was she wearing, was she drunk, did she lead him on. All those questions do is blame the victim for their attackers actions. Though I’ll always side with the victim I can understand why some people would be skeptical. The accusation of rape can destroy the life of an alleged attacker just as much as the life of the so-called victim.

Take for example the man that was a draft pick away from playing in the NFL, but was wrongfully accused of rape and sent to jail. He missed out on the only opportunity he had to live his dream and follow the career path he worked hard for. I’m sure there’s plenty of cases much like that one that puts innocent people behind bars. It’s those who falsely cry rape that set the movement back.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t have questions because you should. No one really knows what happened so asking those questions isn’t a crime. All I’m asking is that you  self-evaluate the way you look at rape victims. Really ask yourself ” do you want to live in a country where the government tells your daughter or granddaughter whether or not she’s been raped?” Let’s end the stigma surrounding rape in America.

My prayers go out to Kesha and any rape victims going through their own legal battles. Hopefully, it all works out and justice is served to whomever it belong to.
